Yasukuni Jinja

Early autumn still carried a faint trace of lingering summer heat. and a gentle morning breeze moved quietly through the air. A clear blue sky stretched above, with rows of green trees standing calmly on both sides. Near the First Torii Gate, a subtle sense of stillness drifted lightly.

Across the spacious grounds, a few people were walking at a relaxed pace. The clear morning air flowed softly through the scene.

The brown First Torii Gate stood gracefully against the blue sky. To the right, the stone marker engraved with “Yasukuni Jinja” was visible. Passing slowly beneath the gate, the openness of the grounds began to unfold. In the cool morning hours, each step felt quietly calming. A faint sense of lingering summer remained, and it seemed the sunlight would grow stronger toward midday.

Soon, the statue of Omura Masujiro came into view. Known as the founder of Japan's modern army, his figure stood quietly at the center of the approach. After looking at it for a moment, the path continued forward. A stone torii stood nearby, and the walk went on.

The second torii, colored in a soft blue‑green, appeared ahead. Its historic hue floated gently in the morning light. Because it was still early, the Shinmon Gate remained closed. Sitting under the shade of the trees near the rest area, the time passed slowly in the quiet air.

Around the gate, people waiting for the opening were scattered softly across the space. A gentle breeze moved through, and the morning continued at an unhurried pace.

As the opening time approached, people began gathering near the gate. Then, the Shinmon Gate opened quietly. Even by chance, being present at that moment felt like a small, precious experience. People walked from the Second Torii to the Chumon Torii and Haiden beyond. In spring, this area must show a different kind of beauty with its cherry blossoms. Within that quiet flow, the shrine was visited with a soft sense of reverence.

The Yushukan Museum on the right side was still closed in the early morning. yet the clear air seemed to wrap the entire grounds in a gentle stillness.

After leaving the grounds once and walking around the area. returning to Yasukuni Jinja revealed a completely different scene. People heading toward the Haiden. people taking photographs. and others looking at souvenirs filled the space. The contrast with the early morning quietness felt striking.

The sun was rising toward its midday height. and the light was slowly brightening across the grounds. More visitors were arriving, and the flow of people continued to grow.

The hours had shifted into the stronger warmth of late summer. The quietness of the early morning opening passed softly through memory. and a gentle smile appeared without effort.

靖國神社

初秋の残暑がまだ薄く残っていた頃、早朝の風が心地よく吹いていた。 雲ひとつない青空が広がっていて、両脇には緑の木々が静かに並んでいる。 第一鳥居のあたりには、凛とした空気が薄く漂っていた。

広々とした境内では、人々がまだらに歩いている。 朝の澄んだ気配がゆっくりと流れていた。

光沢のある茶色の第一鳥居が、青空の中にすっと立っている。 右側には「靖國神社」と刻まれた社号標が見えていた。 その鳥居をゆっくりとくぐり抜けると、境内の広さが静かに広がっている。 涼しい時間帯で、歩くたびに心が少しずつ落ち着いていく。 残暑の気配が薄く残っていて、昼には日差しが強くなるのだろうと感じていた。

やがて、大村益次郎の銅像が見えてくる。 近代日本陸軍の創設者として知られる人物の像は、静かに参道の中央に立っている。 しばらく眺めてから、その場をそっと後にする。 近くには石鳥居が見えていて、そこからさらに歩を進めていった。

青緑色の第二鳥居が見えてきた。 歴史を含んだ色合いが、朝の光の中で淡く浮かんでいる。 早朝だったため、神門はまだ閉じている。 どうしようかと感じながら、外苑休憩所のベンチで木陰に座った。

周囲には同じように神門の開門を待っている人々が、まだらに見えている。 心地よい風が流れていて、時間がゆっくりと進んでいた。

やがて開門の時刻が近づき、人々が神門の前に集まり始めていく。 その中で、神門が静かに開いた。 偶然とはいえ、その瞬間に立ち会えたことが貴重な時間として心に残った。 人々は第二鳥居から中門鳥居の先にある拝殿へと進んでいく。 このあたりは桜の季節にはきっとまた違う風景を見せてくれるのだろう。 その静かな流れの中で、そっと参拝した。

右側にある遊就館は早朝のため閉館していたが、 境内全体が清々しい空気に包まれていて、朝の静けさがどこまでも続いていた。

一度境内を後にして、周囲を散策した。 帰り際にもう一度靖國神社を訪れると、早朝とはまったく違う賑わいが広がっていた。 拝殿へ向かう人々、写真を撮る人々、お土産を見ている人々。 境内には多くの人が溢れていて、朝の静けさとのギャップにふと驚いた。

太陽が少しずつ真上へと昇っていき、光が境内を少しずつ明るく照らしている。 帰り際には、これから訪れる人々がさらに増えていく気配があった。

残暑の強い時間帯になっていた。 早朝の開門時の静けさがふっと過る。 その記憶にそっと笑みがこぼれた。
