Senshu Park — Part 2

At my feet stood a small stone marker engraved with “Senshu Park Pocket Park.” The morning sky was a white overcast sky, and rain was expected in the afternoon. It was still too early for lotus season, and no leaves floated on the water yet. Even so, the view of the Otemon moat promenade from here felt quiet and gently atmospheric. I paused for a moment and softly took a photo.

Beneath the roofed structure marked “Akita Chuo Road Emergency Exit,” a map titled “Guide to Senshu Park” was displayed. Looking at the map, I confirmed the entrance to the Kubota Castle ruins on the Otemon-dori side. With a folding umbrella in hand, I began walking slowly along Otemon-dori toward the castle. The road here rose gently, and with each step the air shifted slightly.

After a short walk, the moat appeared again on my left. Its surface reflected the pale overcast sky in a soft, muted way. Farther ahead, a wooden sign with black letters reading “Kuromon Remains” stood quietly. I felt that this must be the area of the old Kuromon gate and continued walking. Only later did I learn that the moat I had seen earlier was part of the Kuromon area.

Soon the view opened, and a parking area came into sight on my left ahead. Just before it, a wide path gently branched off to the left, serving as the entrance leading toward the Kubota Castle ruins.

Passing through the entrance, a sturdy wooden sign reading “Kubota Castle Ruins” stood ahead. I walked along the path on the right side. Horse chestnut, hydrangea, plum— small plaques marked the names of the plants growing there. In early spring, evergreen trees remained here and there, while the winter-bare trees stretched their branches in silence. Imagining what kind of scenery might unfold from here, I continued walking at a gentle pace. In the season of cherry blossoms, many people must visit Senshu Park, filling the area with lively colors. And before long, the remains of the Ninomaru area came into view on my left.

After a while, a large green pine appeared on my right. Beyond it lay Kogetsu Pond, where a cool fountain sent water softly into the air. The early spring air was still cold, yet the scene felt quietly soothing after the long walk. Under the pale overcast sky, I gazed at the still surface of Kogetsu Pond and let the coolness settle gently into my mind. A tall pine stood on the right, evergreen azaleas at its base, and winter‑bare trees on the left, with the fountain visible beyond them. I wondered what kind of scenery might unfold ahead. With that thought in mind, I continued walking.

Perhaps because of the forecasted rain, The park was not crowded, and I walked quietly along the path. As I approached Kogetsu Pond, a breathtaking view opened before me. In the quiet of the winter-bare trees, only the sound of the fountains echoed softly. There were two fountains— one rising upward from the rock on the left, and the other spreading water gently to both sides from the rock on the right. On rainy days, the scene might look different again.

A little farther ahead, a wooden signpost with pointed ends came into view. To the left was the Ninomaru Site, and to the right, Iyataka Shrine. Seeing the name, a quiet smile came to my face. At last, Iyataka Shrine was near.

Walking under the pale sky, wondering whether the rain would begin or not, did not feel unpleasant. The future is never certain, yet things unfold as they will. With that quiet feeling, I continued along the path to the right.

千秋公園 ― Part 2

足元に「千秋公園ポケットパーク」と刻まれた石碑が置かれていた。 曇り空の朝で、午後には雨の予報が出ている。 蓮の季節にはまだ早く、池には葉も浮かんでいなかった。 それでも、大手門の堀遊歩道を望む風景は静かで、淡い風情が漂っていた。 しばらく立ち止まり、そっと写真を撮った。

「秋田中央道路避難口」と記された屋根付きの建物の下に、 「千秋公園のご案内」と書かれた地図が掲げられている。 その地図を眺めながら、大手門通り側にある久保田城跡の入口を確認した。 折りたたみ傘を手に、大手門通りをゆっくりと久保田城方面へ歩き始める。 このあたりは緩やかな坂になっており、歩を進めるたびに空気が少しずつ変わっていく。

しばらく歩くと、左側に堀が現れた。 水面は白い曇り空を淡く映し、静かに広がっている。 さらに進むと、白地に黒文字で「黒門跡」と書かれた木製の標識が立っていた。 このあたりが黒門跡なのだろうと感じながら、そのまま道を進む。 先程の堀は黒門の堀だと後から知った。

やがて視界が開け、左前方に駐車場が見えてきた。 その手前で、左へ折れる広い歩道が静かに姿を現れた。 それが久保田城跡へ向かう公園入口であった。

入口をくぐると、正面にしっかりとした木製の「久保田城跡」と書かれた看板が立っていた。 その横を通り、右側の歩道に沿って歩いていく。 トチノキ、セイヨウアジサイ、ウメ── 植えられた植物の名が小さな札に記されている。 初春の園内は常緑の木々がところどころに残り、 冬木立の木々が静かに枝を伸ばしていた。 ここからどのような風景が広がるのだろうと想像しながら、ゆっくりと歩を進める。 桜の季節には、きっと多くの人々が千秋公園を訪れ、賑わいを見せるのだろう。 そうして左側に二の丸跡が見えてきた。

しばらく歩くと、大きな緑の松が右手に現れた。 その先に胡月池が広がり、涼しげな噴水が静かに水を上げている。 初春の空気はまだ冷たかったが、歩き続けた身体にその風景は柔らかく沁みた。 曇り空の下、胡月池の静かな水面をしばらく眺め、そっと涼を味わう。 右側には大きな松、足元には常緑のツツジ。 左側には冬木立の木々と、その先に見える噴水。 さて、この先にはどのような風景が広がっていくのだろうか。 そんなことを思いながら、ゆっくりと歩を進めた。

午後から雨の予報が出ていたためか、 園内は人影もまばらで、歩道を静かに歩いていった。 胡月池へ近づくにつれ、思わず息をのむような光景が広がる。 冬木立の静けさの中で、噴水の音だけが淡く響いていた。 噴水は二つあり、左の岩からは上へ、右の岩からは左右へと水が散っている。 雨の日には、また違った表情を見せるのかもしれない。

少し進むと、両端がとがった木の標（しるべ）が現れた。 左は二の丸跡、右は彌高神社。 その文字を見た瞬間、ふと笑みがこぼれた。 いよいよ彌高神社だ。

曇り空を見上げながら、雨が降るかどうかを気にしつつ歩くのも悪くない。 先のことは分からないが、なるようにしかならない。 そんな思いで、右側の道を静かに進んでいった。
