Okuda Shrine

The sunlight was strong from early morning. The midsummer brightness was quietly spreading across the ground. Feeling that the day would become another scorching one, I boarded the Toyama Light Rail at Toyama Station.

At the station, I hesitated for a moment, unsure of which tram to board. The outbound and inbound tram tracks ran side by side, so I walked while checking the direction. Soon, I managed to board the Toyama Light Rail. A quiet presence of people filled the morning car. After a short ride, I arrived at Shimo-Okui Station.

The sunlight was reflecting strongly off the road. With no shade in sight, I held up my umbrella and walked quietly beneath it. Along the way, a sign reading “Okuda Shrine” appeared ahead. Following the arrow, I entered a residential neighborhood. Passing between still houses, I walked with a faint sense of tension until the shrine slowly came into view.

Okuda Shrine stands quietly within the neighborhood, carrying a soft yet dignified presence. At the center of its light-gray torii, an orange shimenawa hung firmly, with asa-o and white shide resting quietly beneath it. Though modest in size, the grounds were filled with a calm and taut air.

Upon entering, I found a single crow standing still. It seemed accustomed to people and hardly moved. A quiet smile rose within me. The offering booth was not yet open, so I decided to walk around the area for a while.

Okuda Shrine is said to be an old shrine of the Kumano tradition. It enshrines the divine couple Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto. The Akasofu family, a long-standing local household, is known to have built the shrine hall. Through many years, the shrine has been cherished by the people of this land, and I felt that quiet history entering me.

Walking again, the heat pressed down strongly. Warm air shimmered above the concrete, moving slowly in the summer light. I found a convenience store at last, bought a cold drink, and rested for a moment. Then I returned toward the shrine.

By the time I arrived, the sunlight had grown even stronger. A single crow greeted me again as I stepped into the grounds. I offered a quiet prayer at the worship hall. Near it, a small golden crow containing omikuji rested softly.

When I turned back after praying, the one crow had become two. They stood together near the temizuya, quietly side by side. The gentle sight brought another faint smile.

At the offering booth, I looked at the charms. Among them were rare designs featuring crows, and I found myself quietly absorbed in their presence. Then I left Okuda Shrine softly behind.

The heat of the midsummer day was intense. The chocolate I had bought at the convenience store felt close to melting. Even so, whenever the image of those small crows rose quietly within me, there were moments when I forgot the heat.

奥田神社

朝から日差しが強い。 真夏の光が地面を白く照らしている。 今日も猛暑になりそうだと感じながら、富山駅で富山ライトレールに乗った。

駅では、どの電車に乗ればよいのか少し迷う。 行きと帰りの線路が並んで走っているため、方向を確かめながら歩いた。 やがて無事に富山ライトレールへ乗ることができた。 朝の時間帯とあって、車内には静かな人の気配が満ちている。 そうして下奥井駅へと降り立った。

太陽の光が道路に強く照り返している。 日影がないため、日傘や帽子で光をそっと遮りながら歩く。 途中で「奥田神社」と書かれた標識が見えてきた。 その矢印に導かれるように住宅街へ入っていく。 静かな家々の間を抜け、少し緊張しながら進むと、奥田神社の姿がゆっくりと見えてきた。

住宅街の中にひっそりと佇む奥田神社は、静かでありながら、淡い威厳を保っている。 ライトグレーの鳥居の中央には、オレンジ色の太い 注連縄（しめなわ）が張られている。 その下には 麻苧（あさお）が垂れ、白い 紙垂（しで）が静かに下がっていた。 こじんまりとした境内でありながら、凛とした空気が静かに広がっていた。

境内に入ると、一匹のカラスがじっと佇んでいた。 人に慣れているのか、ほとんど動かない。 その姿にふと笑みがこぼれた。 授与所はまだ開いていなかったため、周辺を少し歩いてみることにした。

奥田神社は熊野系の古社と伝わっている。 伊弉諾尊（いざなぎのみこと）・伊弉冉尊（いざなみのみこと）という夫婦神が祀られているらしい。 地元の名家である 赤祖父（あかそふ）家が社殿を造営した歴史も残っているとのこと。 長い年月の中で、この土地の人々に大切にされてきた神社なのだと感じた。

再び歩き出すと、暑さが強く照りつけていた。 コンクリートの上に熱がこもり、空気がゆっくりと揺れている。 ようやく見つけたコンビニで冷たい飲み物を買い、少し涼んだ。 そうして再び奥田神社へ向かった。

戻る頃には、太陽の光がさらに強く地面を照らしていた。 境内へ入ると、先ほどのカラスがまた一匹、静かに迎えてくれた。 拝殿でそっと参拝する。 拝殿の近くには、金色の小さなカラスの中に入ったおみくじが置かれている。

参拝を終えて振り返ると、一匹だったカラスが二匹になっていた。 手水舎（てみずや）のそばで、仲良く並んで静かに佇んでいる。 その穏やかな光景に、また笑みがこぼれた。

授与所では御守を見てみた。 カラスの意匠が施された珍しい御守が並んでいる。 その静かな佇まいにしばらく見入っていた。 そうして奥田神社をそっと後にした。

猛暑日らしい強い暑さの中、コンビニで買ったチョコレートは袋の中で溶けそうになっていた。 それでも、あの可愛らしいカラスたちの姿がふと浮かぶたび、暑さを忘れる瞬間があった。
