Toyama Castle Park — Part 3

Leaving the Toyama City Local History Museum, I walked toward the Chitose Gate. Because I had entered the park from the Ōtemon side earlier, I found myself quietly wondering how the park would appear from the gate. The red-brown tiled roof of the Chitose Gate was already coming into view, resting calmly beneath the summer light. To its right, a lower black-roofed slope gate stood beside it, creating a gentle contrast. I walked slowly toward the gate with quiet anticipation.

Passing through the Chitose Gate, a wide sidewalk opened before me. When I turned back, the gate stood quietly, its form rising softly against the light. From the sidewalk, the Nozurazumi stone walls on the right appeared neatly gathered, their height aligned with the roof of the gate. The balance between the roofline and the stones felt quietly harmonious. Near the stone steps, green maple leaves added a soft touch of summer. I paused and took a photo.

On the right side of the sidewalk, the Machinaka Tourist Information Office was visible. I decided to stop by on my way back. For now, I stepped once more through the Chitose Gate and returned to the park.

I walked toward the Japanese-style garden. In the midsummer sunlight, the water of the small waterfall flowed with a cool, gentle motion, softening the heat around it. The green trees were quietly easing the warm air. A larger pond appeared ahead, its surface reflecting a pale overcast sky with patches of blue. I looked over the water and took another photo.

Farther along, the Sato Memorial Art Museum showed its pale green roof above the trees. Seen from near the pond, the scene felt quietly beautiful, and something in my heart moved softly. I crossed a small bridge formed by a single large stone, with water flowing quietly on both sides. A rest area appeared a short distance ahead, and I paused there to cool myself for a moment. The heat and the time of day had left the place nearly empty, giving the moment a gentle stillness. After resting, I continued walking.

Before long, Honmarutei and the bronze statue of Maeda Masatoshi came into view. I walked toward the statue, where a sign stood quietly nearby. Maeda Masatoshi is known for establishing the foundation of Toyama's traditional medicine trade. The phrase “Toyama's medicine sellers” came softly to mind. I looked at the statue for a while, feeling a quiet connection to the history it carried.

A lawn field spread out before me. From there, I looked once more toward Toyama Castle before leaving the park. The wide sidewalks and the gentle mixture of history and the present moment created a space that felt quietly balanced.

On the way back, I stopped briefly at the Machinaka Tourist Information Office, then crossed Shiokura Bridge and headed toward the station. Inside, summer travelers were moving calmly through the crowds. People were quietly looking at local specialties—hotaru-ika, trout sushi, and other foods—under the soft station lights. In that gentle flow of time, I felt a quiet sense of summer lingering around me.

Part 3
