Tokyo Daijingu

It was a clear morning with almost no clouds in the sky, a quiet beginning filled with soft light. I walked through the streets after losing my way for a moment, moving with quiet anticipation.

After walking a short distance from the station, a deep brown wooden torii gate appeared gently within the townscape. It stood among the trees, and I paused to look at it for a while. Stone steps lay before the torii gate, and on the right side, a shagōhyō stone marker engraved with “Tokyo Daijingu” stood quietly. Beyond its still presence, the pale green roof of the Shinmon Gate could be seen.

A wooden fence was placed before the torii gate, and its presence felt slightly unusual. I walked closer, wondering if one could enter from there. As I approached, a passageway leading into the shrine grounds appeared on the right side of the fence. Feeling a quiet sense of understanding, I entered the grounds from that path.

A wooden information board with a pale green roof stood nearby. It explained that Tokyo Daijingu serves as a distant worship site for Ise Jingu, known affectionately as “Tokyo's Ise Jingu.” The deities enshrined here are Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Omikami. With the three deities of creation also enshrined, the shrine is widely known for its connection to good relationships.

Looking upward, cherry blossoms were in bloom. Against the clear blue sky, the soft green of new leaves and the pale pink blossoms overlapped gently, creating a quiet harmony of colors. For a moment, I simply gazed at the scene, drawn to its still and delicate beauty.

Inside the grounds, preparations for a children's Omikoshi festival were underway on the right side. The children moved with a lively sense of joy, suggesting that a festival would take place that day.

A long line had already formed before the Haiden. Tokyo Daijingu is modest in size for a shrine in the city, yet many visitors come to pray. Perhaps because it is a distant worship site of Ise Jingu, a gentle sense of familiarity seemed to drift through the grounds. Many young visitors were present, quietly forming a line together. With the festival preparations adding a soft liveliness to the air, I waited calmly and offered my prayer. Afterward, I left Tokyo Daijingu.

Walking for a while, the scenery of buildings near the station opened before me. In a small plaza, a single cherry tree stood in full bloom, its pale pink blossoms bright against the urban backdrop. I walked closer and spent a quiet moment looking at the blossoms.

The cherry tree at Tokyo Daijingu and the one here seemed to overlap softly in memory. The blossoms, appearing only once each year, hold a fleeting beauty that gently captures the hearts of those who see them.

This year's blossoms will eventually fall, and the next will come again in spring. I felt something quiet within me as I walked toward the station.

東京大神宮

当日は快晴の、雲がほとんどない清々しい朝だった。 目的地に向かったあとに道に迷い、何となく周辺を歩いていた。

駅から少し歩いた街並みの中に、ふっと深い茶色の木製の鳥居が現れていた。 木々の間にそびえ立つその鳥居をしばらく眺める。 鳥居の手前には石段があり、右側には「東京大神宮」と刻まれた社号標が静かに佇んでいた。 道路側に立つその静かな佇まいの奥に、淡い緑色をした神門の屋根が見えていた。

階段の先の鳥居の手前には木の柵が設置されていて、少し不思議に感じた。 入れるのだろうかと思いながら近づいていくと、柵の右側に境内への通路が見えていた。 なるほど、と感じながらそこから境内に入った。

ふと見ると、淡い緑色の屋根を持つ木製の案内板があった。 東京大神宮は伊勢神宮の遥拝殿で、「東京のお伊勢さま」として親しまれているらしい。 祀られている神様は天照大神と豊受大神。 そして造化の三神が祀られているため、縁結びの神社としても知られているようだ。

頭上を見ると、桜が咲いているのが見えた。 背景には快晴の青空、新緑の淡い葉と桜の可愛らしい花が重なり、 その色彩の静かな美しさにしばらく見とれていた。

境内に入ると、右側で子ども神輿のお祭りの準備が進んでいた。 子供たちが楽しそうに動いていて、この日はお祭りがあるようだった。

拝殿前にはすでに長い列ができていた。 東京大神宮は都会の中のこじんまりとした神社だが、参拝者は多い。 お伊勢さんの遥拝殿ということもあり、どこか親しみやすい空気が漂っている。 若い人の姿も多く、男女ともに参拝者が静かに列を作っていた。 お祭りの準備もあり、境内には淡い活気が流れていた。 ゆったりとした気分で列に並び、そっと参拝をした。 そうして東京大神宮を後にした。

しばらく歩くと、駅前のビルの風景が広がっていた。 その一角の広場に一本の桜の木が満開で、淡いピンク色の花を咲かせていた。 ビルの立ち並ぶ手前で咲くその桜は、都会の中でひときわ目立つ存在だった。 近くまで歩き、しばらくその桜を眺める。

東京大神宮で見かけた桜と、広場で見かけた桜が静かに重なっていく。 年に一度だけ満開の姿を見せるその儚く美しい花に、人々は心を奪われていく。

今年の桜もやがて散っていく。 次に桜を見られるのは来年。 その頃にはどんな季節が流れているのだろう。 そんなことをふと感じながら、駅へ向かっていた。
