Kamakura Coast — Part 1

The rainy season had lifted, and the sky was slowly turning toward summer. The lingering humidity was fading, and a clear blue sky was beginning to open. I once watched the morning sun rise quietly over the coast of Katase-Enoshima, a scene that still rests somewhere in my memory. That quiet light returned to me for a moment, stirring a faint sense of summer within.

There are places around Inamuragasaki and Shichirigahama where the evening sun is said to be beautiful. With quiet anticipation, I decided to go and see it for myself.

I stepped outside while the heat of the day was still lingering. Arriving at Yuigahama Station, I walked slowly along the residential street beside the convenience store. The shadows of the houses were stretching quietly, and beyond them, the presence of the sea was drifting in the air. Soon, the expanse of Yuigahama Beach came into view.

Many people, including travelers, were resting under the sunlight. Because it was already late in the afternoon, the beach was not overly crowded, and a gentle liveliness drifted across the sand. Far out on the water, surfers were moving with the rhythm of the waves. Families, friends, and those who had come alone were each spending their own quiet time. The blue sea was spreading with the sound of waves, and the summer air was touching the skin softly.

It seemed that the Kamakura Fireworks Festival would be held soon. Along the roadside, a banner announcing the event was quietly displayed. As I walked along the sand, the summer air was sinking gently into my heart.

The Sagami Bay stretched out ahead. To the right, the direction of Inamuragasaki and Enoshima appeared like wooded hills rising from the coast. To the left, the direction of Osaki Park stretched quietly, with wooded slopes rising along the way. I later learned that around Wada-zuka and Kamakura, Gion-yama has a viewpoint where one can look down over the sea. Yakumo Shrine is also said to be nearby.

After walking for a while, I left the beach behind.

Next, I headed toward Inamuragasaki. On the way, I got off at Gokurakuji Station and decided to stop by Jojuin Temple. After a short walk, the gate appeared at the top of the stone steps. It was closed for the evening, yet the quietness there was enough. I felt that this area must hold its own gentle scenery, and I walked back toward the station.

I boarded the train again and continued toward Inamuragasaki. There was still time before sunset. People heading toward Kamakura and those heading toward Fujisawa were quietly sharing the same space. Outside the window, the blue sea was spreading, its color simply beautiful. With the clear sky above, the sea seemed to stand out even more softly.

Travelers move for moments like this— to feel nature, to let it settle within, and then to return home satisfied. For those who live near the sea, this must be part of everyday life. In the midst of the crowd, I felt my presence gently dissolving like a wave.

鎌倉海岸 ― Part 1

梅雨が明け、空の色がゆっくりと夏へ向かっていく日々が続いていた。 雨の気配が薄れ、ようやく青空が広がっている。 片瀬江ノ島の海岸では、朝日が静かに昇っていく光景を昔見ていたことがある。 その静けさをふと思い出しながら、夏の気配が心の奥で薄く揺れていた。

稲村ケ崎や七里ガ浜のあたりには、夕日が美しく見える場所があるらしい。 その話をふと思い出し、半ば確かめるような気持ちで夕日を見に行くことにした。

暑さの残る時間帯に外へ出た。 由比ヶ浜駅に着き、コンビニの横にある住宅街の道をゆっくりと歩いていった。 家々の影が静かに伸びていて、その向こうに海の気配が漂っていた。 やがて由比ヶ浜海水浴場が広がっていた。

砂浜では、観光客を含む多くの人々が日光を浴びていた。 夕方が近いせいか、混雑というほどではなく、ほどよい賑わいが漂っている。 海辺の向こうでは、波に合わせてサーフィンを楽しむ姿が揺れていた。 家族や友人、ひとりで訪れた人など、それぞれの時間が静かに流れている。 青い海が波の音をたてながら広がっていて、夏の気配がゆっくりと肌に触れていた。

どうやら近々鎌倉花火大会が開催されるようだ。 道路沿いの広告に、その案内が静かに掲げられているのが見えていた。 砂浜を歩きながら、夏の空気が心に薄く染み込んでいくのを感じていた。

正面には相模湾が広がっている。 右側には稲村ケ崎や江の島のある方角が、森林の斜面と共に小高い丘のように見えていた。 左側には大崎公園のある方角が、山々の斜面と共に静かに伸びていた。 後程知ったのだが、和田塚と鎌倉のあたりにある祇園山には、海を見下ろす見晴台があるという。 近くには八雲神社もあるらしい。

しばらく歩いたあと、砂浜を離れることにした。

次に向かったのは稲村ケ崎だった。 途中で極楽寺駅に降り、成就院へ立ち寄ることにした。 駅から少し歩くと、石段の先に成就院の門が見えてきた。 夕方のため閉門していたが、そこにある静けさだけで十分だった。 このあたりにもきっと、風情ある景色が広がっているのだろうと感じながら、駅へ戻った。

再び電車に乗り、稲村ケ崎へ向かった。 夕日まではまだ時間がある。 車内には鎌倉方面へ向かう人々と、藤沢方面へ向かう人々が静かに混ざり合っていた。 窓の外には青い海が広がっていて、その色がただただ美しかった。 青空が重なることで、海の美しさがさらに薄く際立っているようにも見えた。

旅人たちは、この瞬間のために移動し、自然を味わい、そして満足して帰っていくのだろう。 海の近くに住む人々にとっては、これが日常の光景なのかもしれない。 人ごみの中に、自分の気配が海の波のように薄く溶けていくのをふと感じていた。
